The 23rd Annual Family Literacy Festival is presented by The Gainesville Sun and the Alachua County Literacy Network. The purpose of the festival is to raise awareness about literacy and to reward students for their participation in the Million Minutes of Reading, a program that encourages elementary and middle school students to read.

Special Guests: Max City Dog, Plato The Publixaurus, Waste Watcher, Chick-fil-A Cow, UF Jugglers – Objects in Motion

Schedule of Events: (subject to change):

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Festival of Displays in library courtyard and the Matheson Museum will be open

10 a.m. – Festival welcome, recognition and literacy awards presented by Gainesville City Mayor Craig Lowe

10:25 – 10:35 a.m. – Performance by the Duval Fine Arts Academy

10:35 – 10:45 a.m. – Performance by O2B Kids

11 a.m. – Million Minutes of Reading awards for middle school and elementary school students

Parking: Free parking for the festival is available at the Union Street Station Parking Garage from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ONLY, courtesy of McGurn Investment Co.
