Explore the Universe

Study the Origins of the Earth: Clues from Our Solar System and from Distant Worlds. Dr. Andrew Youdin, Canadian Center for Theoretical Astrophysics, will provide a presentation at 7:20 p.m this Friday (1/30) followed by a telescope viewing at Florida Gym 270, University of Florida. Free and open to the public. Dr. Youdin’s lecture is part of a special speaker series at UF celebrating the International Year of Astronomy. Here’s a full schedule of the upcoming presentations.

Also on Friday, the teaching observatory at the University of Florida will hold its weekly free public night. From 8:30 to 10:00, observe the moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae and other astronomical wonders through 8-inch and 12-inch telescopes. You can even take images of what you see and bring them home — the observatory lets the public take photographs using its electronic telescope. The observatory is south of the Reitz Union off Museum Road. Weather permitting; check the website before leaving for sky conditions.
